Introduction to Bidar

The Bahamani Dynasty was established by Ala-ud-din Bahaman from Afghanistan after defeating the Delhi Sultanate (Muhammad bin Tughlaq). The capital of the empire became Gulbarga from 1347 to 1425 and shifted to Muhammadabad (Bidar) during the reign of the ninth Bahamani King, Ahmed Shah Wali Bahamani (1422 – 1436). The reason for this shift was Bidar's strategic central position in the kingdom, its' natural defences and favourable climate, where all sorts of flora and fauna thrived.
